I just wanted to have my house repainted
Ten days ago I decided to have my house repainted. I telephoned a painter and he came home and started preparing the walls. Pitifully, a pile of plaster fell off onto the floor. I had to have the wall completely replastered. A plasterer came home and while he was knocking the old plaster off, he hit a gas pipe and fractured it. I had to have it mended, so I called a gas fitter. While he was fitting a new gas pipe, he burnt through an electric cable with his blowlamp. This meant having a room rewired. While I was explaining what had happened to an electrician, he broke a window accidentally. I called a glazier to have the window replaced. At last, he finished fitting the window. When everybody left home I counted how much I had spent on the damages and I realized I had spent a lot of money. As I was very angry I started to hit the wall and a pile of plaster fell off onto the floor again. | Forms | have + noun or object pronoun + past participle Present Simple: have / has ... past participle Present Continuous: am / is / are having ... past participle Past Simple: had ... past participle Past Continuous: was / were having ... past participle Going to Future: am / is /are going to have ... past participle Will Future: will have ... past participle | | Uses | The causative is often used: • to say that somebody else has to do something for somebody. • with verbs that refer to services like repair, mend, paint, build, decorate, etc. When we want to say that something has to be done urgently we can use get instead of have. |
